My name is John O’Brien and I am the Service Director for this innovative service.
The service we run here is divided into two main areas. Firstly, we run a cataracts and general ophthalmology service in the community at Croft Shifa Health Centre in Rochdale and we also run a mobile-based Macular/AMD service across the North West of England. We were the first community-based service to receive an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the CQC.
We were understandably very proud of this CQC rating but prouder still of the service we give to our patients on an everyday basis- and their feedback lets us know that we are delivering a service valued by those we treat. We are currently using the models of care that have been developed in this service as the template for a significant expansion of the service nationally.
