As in all clinical environments, reducing the risk of infection and HAIs (Healthcare Acquired Infections) is a vital component of NHS patient care at all our delivery locations.
We take great pride in the cleanliness of our service locations, and we work extremely hard to ensure we keep the ‘bugs at bay.’
Our infection control manager is responsible for all aspects of infection control, including monitoring cleanliness and training all staff.
We have a robust infection control programme in place and hold monthly meetings that are attended by staff representatives who coordinate infection control activities in their area, and chaired by the Service Director. This ensures that infection control remains at the highest priority at all times.
Keeping the service locations clean
Cleaning services within all our service locations are monitored daily, and are also monitored by patients in our patient satisfaction survey. We aim to keep cleanliness to the highest standard, however, if you are unhappy with any anything, please speak to a member of staff so that we can immediately address the problem.
MRSA and COVID-19 screening
If you need an operation, the clinical team will take a swab from your nose to test for a bacteria called MRSA. This bacteria is often found on healthy people and causes no problems. However, it can cause a very nasty infection after surgery or if someone is weak and unwell. Within a few days we will have the results and if you have the bacteria we will contact you and organise an antibacterial treatment for you before you come in for your operation. We will give you more information about this test when the decision is taken that you need an operation.
We have also redesigned elements of our service to ensure that best practice to protect against COVID-19 has been adopted. These precautions include:
- Longer appointment slots to enhance social distancing
- Cleaning regimes between patients
- Screening at reception
- Distanced seating
- Revised patient pathways to optimise distancing and minimise visits
- Revised reception procedures to minimise patients waiting in exposed areas
- Increased hygiene stations.

We are extremely proud to have not had a single case of MRSA since we opened but we are not complacent about this and need the continued support of staff, patients and the public to make sure we keep this record.
